Astro

Month

December 2024

This month is a pivotal point ushering in a period of radical change bringing a crescendo to the year’s astrological energies. There’s a sense of déjà vu as we are called to review old beliefs, judgements, and mindsets to discover whether they are still valid within our current life experience. This is a time of revelation when illusions are shattered and truth is revealed as the old world has fallen, along with its limiting beliefs, outdated paradigms, greed, and manipulation. It’s an awakening, a stripping away of falsehoods to reveal a more authentic and aligned reality. It’s not a gentle process—it’s disruptive, intense, and often unexpected. Yet, within this chaos lies the promise of renewal, a clearing of the old to make way for the new. It’s a moment of deep vulnerability that can feel both liberating and intimidating.

A sense of closure and reflection may wash over us. Challenges we’ve faced over the past six months are on the verge of finding resolution; we might begin to grasp the larger perspective or uncover fresh insights. The hectic rhythm of the holiday season might leave us feeling drained as the simultaneous retrograde of Mercury and Mars can lead to a sense of sluggishness, diminished motivation, and the sensation of struggling against the odds. It will be important to embrace a more relaxed approach, avoid overwhelming ourselves, and focus on nurturing our well-being. As the year comes to a close, it may be meaningful to reflect on the journey you have undertaken. Remember that this is merely a chapter in our life’s journey; just as the Sun transitions through its phases, so too will we embrace new stages of existence.

Mars Retrograde in Leo : Combativeness may be especially strong around the first part of the month. Events around the first week of the month may have ripple effects for several months.

Neptune Direct in Pisces : The first half of the month could find us feeling disassociated from physical reality. We may also be more emotionally and psychically sensitive.

Full Moon in Gemini : Mid-December, we seek clarity and insight; however, our minds may be foggy. But if we go within to seek our answers, the awareness we gain should serve us well going forward.

Solstice : 21 December is a day to honour the Sun; both the darkest and brightest moments serve as reminders that life is a continuous cycle.

Jupiter square Saturn; Mercury opposite Jupiter + square Saturn : It will be hard to know whether to be hopeful or pessimistic during the last week of the month. Travel plans could be problematic, and conversations may be stressful.

New Moon in Capricorn : We end the month with a Black Moon (second New Moon in a calendar month). The inner work we do at year’s end — especially the purging and cleansing of old patterns — should help us step confidently into the New Year.

VENUS IN CAPRICORN (11 NOVEMBER ~ 7 December)

Less is more; keep things simple. More serious, grounded, and practical. Be realistic about investments, in both relationship and financial matters. Focus on what is reliable and longterm, valuing simplicity and moderation. Examine whether the relationships in your life have a solid foundation. But don’t become so jaded or cynical to the point of a transactional approach to emotional connections.

NEPTUNE RETROGRADE (2 July ~ 7 December)

Revealing what lies beneath the surface. Removing the blinders so we can see the deeper truth and make any necessary adjustments to our life. A fresh wave of creativity, enabling us to perceive solutions and possibilities instead of obstacles and limitations. Opportunity to gain clarity by confronting illusions and delusions, to uncover hidden forces and gain a deeper understanding. Introspection and spiritual realignment to see beyond the surface and connect with deeper layers of our subconscious. Turn inward to reflect on our dreams, illusions, and spiritual insights. We can shatter illusions, unveiling a reality that differs from our initial perception. This period may reveal hidden truths, dissolve illusions, and prompt us to reassess our ideals and aspirations to determine if they still resonate with who and where you are. We may feel a heightened sense of intuition and empathy, making it crucial to listen to our inner voice and trust our instincts.

Be mindful of any idealistic views we may hold regarding relationships, finances, or other aspects of our life. Hopes and wishes dissolve; reassess and make necessary changes for a more realistic perspective that leads to more harmonious relationships and encounters. If disillusionment is all it takes to quash our spirits, then maybe our vision wasn’t that strong to begin with; perhaps it was just wishful thinking. However, if this inspires us to brainstorm, to test-drive different approaches to bridging the gap between the way we see things in our mind's eye and reality, then this visualisation is the first step to realisation that becomes more clear on 7 December when Neptune goes direct.

CHIRON RETROGRADE IN ARIES (26 July ~ 29 December)

Insecurities, fears, old grudges, emotional wounds, or frustrations could reawaken, perhaps masked over by anger and reactivity. Use this as an opportunity to understand, accept, and love the part of ourselves that may be feeling fearful. Focus on self-care and self-compassion, even in the face of personal challenges. Use this period to meticulously reexamine the facets of ourselves influenced by past trauma or wounds, to reflect, assimilate, and contemplate strategies for progress. We are encouraged to let go of our fears and keep pushing forward by cultivating a sense of acceptance within ourselves.

MERCURY IN SAGITTARIUS (2 November ~ 8 January)

A wave of uninhibited expression. Expanding minds and seeking truth; transform old mindsets into perspectives that support higher ideals and consciousness. An expansive and adventurous shift in our mental energy. Thinking tends to be more philosophical and even optimistic. We are encouraged to push our minds beyond the ordinary to embrace a broader perspective. With an open mind, we can cultivate inner truth and wisdom that align with our highest selves. Seek to understand the higher meanings of experience by putting less attention to mundane details. This is a time for elevating our thoughts, tapping into higher wisdom, and integrating physical and spiritual lessons to let go of the karmic cycles of old belief systems, philosophies, and dramas. Step onto new spiritual terrain with purpose and clarity.

Do not overcommit or get swept up in the search for answers. The quest for knowledge can sometimes make us overly idealistic or dogmatic, so be careful not to dismiss other viewpoints. Amidst the exaggerated tales, there may be a nugget of truth worth noting. Watch out for a tendency to be tactless, self-righteous, judgemental. While it is crucial to be true to ourself and our truth, it is just as important to be sensitive and considerate of how you transmit that to others

URANUS RETROGRADE IN TAURUS (1 September ~ 30 January)

Awakening inner revolutions bringing changes to areas of life that may have felt routine or have become stagnant. We are being invited to change our set ways, to break old habits and routines, and to risk stepping beyond the familiar — especially if our comfort zone has actually become a place of stagnation. This shake-up in stability and finances urges us to rethink our values and incorporate new ways of living and thinking. We may start to embrace (if not exactly champion) the very things we once found objectionable; this realisation will gradually dawn on us over the next few months so that the changes we elect to make are more gradual and long-lasting.

NODAL AXIS SHIFT (17 July 2023 ~ 11 January 2025)

As the North Node enters Aries and South Node enters Libra, we may feel a culmination of their lessons in Taurus and Scorpio, respectively, and a welcoming to a new beginning. The North Node shows where we are going and the next steps needed for our growth, while the South Node represents our past and past life experiences, and indicates a default mode and the shadow qualities that could hold us back. The South Node in Libra asks us to honour the partnerships we have formed, how we have fought for justice, and how we have learned to cooperate. The North Node in Aries puts a focus on moving forward, being independent, connecting with our fiery nature, being our own unique trailblazers.

From ... To

Codependence ... Independence, self-awareness

Seeing life through others’ eyes ... Trusting own instincts

Prioritizing external harmony ... Prioritizing honesty and self-awareness

Obsession with reciprocity, “eye for an eye” justice ... Well-being not based on outer “fairness” but on inner alignment

Unhealthy, debilitating selflessness ... Moderation in giving, constructive self-interest, good boundaries

Need for outer approval and support ... Taking risks based on own feelings and knowing

Indecisive, need to justify decisions ... Acting on intuition, spontaneity

JUPITER RETROGRADE IN GEMINI (9 October ~ 4 February)

A period of introspection and reassessment in areas related to learning, communication, and personal beliefs, with potential delays or rethinking of plans related to travel, education, or networking. Revisit old ideas, projects, or educational pursuits. This is a good time to review past decisions, reassess our approach to acquiring knowledge, and focus on inner growth rather than seeking external expansion. We may find themes from late May to September 2024 resurface. We could feel inundated with information. The importance of introspection and personal reflection encourages us to seek answers from within rather than relying on external information sources. We have better access to insights since wisdom flows more easily from the superconscious to our conscious minds. Jupiter Retrograde reminds us that we don't grow if things come easy; we only grow if we're inspired to. There's nothing saying we can't stay inside our comfort zone, but if we’re willing to take a running leap of faith, we might like where we land on 4 February.

LUNAR NEW YEAR OF THE WOOD DRAGON
(10 February 2024 ~ 9 February 2025)

A Year of the Dragon can bestow resilience, insight, fortitude, prosperity, good fortune, and the power to accomplish our goals, be productive, and overcome obstacles. Be brave and unwavering in our pursuits whilst careful not to force ourselves to obtain what we desire. Confidence will be on our side if we are leading with the heart The dragon also stands for unity, harmony, peace, and innovation, ushering in a new era of strength and genuine expression. Dragon energy enhances intellect, wit, and comprehension of the world; be aware of profound insights, epiphanies, and awakenings. Recognise the value that we bring to the table and open ourselves up to receiving. Take the opportunity to hone our abilities, gain access to a deeper level of wisdom, and discover the courage that is necessary to live the life of our dreams.

The energy of the Wood Dragon tempers impulsiveness and boosts self-assurance without shouting. Boldness and innovation take their time laying the groundwork for a strong and sustainable future. Develop, broaden, and maintain a long-term vision as we start anew and sow seeds with the onset of Spring by starting over and trying new things supported by some ground rules. The Year of the Wood Dragon is an excellent time to launch a new enterprise or to initiate the process of growing and expanding our aspirations and dreams. We are likely to create a great deal of success for ourselves if we broaden our horizons and take a little more risk than normal. We may also experience themes related to relationships encouraging us to maintain a healthy equilibrium between our relationships and our individuality. Even when collaborating with others or the world at large, we may wonder how we can be more authentic.

MARS IN CANCER (4 September ~ 3 November; Rx 6 January ~ 18 April)

People seek security and are motivated by a strong protective or defensive urge. This may lead some to withdraw and others to attack. Conflicts with the outside world are bound to arise. Cancer is tribal by nature. Don't be surprised if people find themselves torn between family and friends, tradition and love, or facing some kind of upset in their personal life. It may feel strange having to make certain adjustments and sacrifices over the next few weeks, but it's meant to expand our understanding of family.

Mars will be retrograde in Cancer from 6 January ~ 18 April. Various aspects of our energy levels, where we direct our energy, and our motivation can be significantly influenced. It can also shed light on our emotions, fears, masculinity, and areas where we should embrace our inner warrior.

JUPITER IN GEMINI (25 May ~ 9 June 2025)

A whirlwind of mental and social expansion, and a surge of curiosity. Openness and enthusiasm towards expanding knowledge and social interactions. Seek out the sparks of inspiration and doors of opportunity that reveal themselves through natural curiosity and meaningful conversations with others. Jupiter in Gemini conditions its rewards based on our day-to-day interactions. If you’re good to people, then people will be good in return; and if you’re not, your returns are likely to be significantly less than what you had originally hoped for. It’s important to find a better way to play well with others. The collective focus shifts to communications and the dissemination of information. It may seem like things are moving at a rapid pace. We might experience information overload at times, or experience a sense of constant activity and your attention being pulled in various directions. Growing discussion about what is fact and what is fiction. Use higher wisdom and intuitive knowing to discern what is true and what is real. We can no longer simply rely only on our minds or on logic and reason to discern truth and to explain our world.

Whenever Jupiter transitions between signs, it signifies the beginning of a fresh chapter in the Gemini-ruled part of our birth chart, where we can expect growth and prosperity particularly around that area of life. Jupiter in Gemini can bring lots of good opportunities our way (see the house ruled by Gemini in your chart for what area of life we are most likely to see them)

SATURN IN PISCES (7 March 2023 ~ 14 Feb 2026)

Self-discovery and transformation. Responsibility, spiritual growth, emotional healing, karmic reckoning, hope and despair. A heightened focus on spirituality, self-reflection, and a greater sensitivity to the world around us. Saturn in Pisces desires a harmonious balance between life’s practical and imaginative sides. While in visionary Pisces, Saturn will require that we invest in our spiritual practice or creative endeavours in concrete ways, rather than merely wishing for dreams to come true. Consequences and end-goals are made clear. It will no longer be acceptable to simply espouse higher ideals; we must now implement them, to see whether they pass the test of practical application. Our faith may be tested, but we also have an opportunity to strengthen our spiritual foundation. Be aware of vulnerability and contemplate responsibility to those who are vulnerable and endangered. Let go of limiting beliefs and negative patterns in order to embrace a more compassionate and intuitive approach to life.

This is an opportunity to recover the Soul we once thought was lost. A wave of regret, self-recrimination, and guilty secrets can come crashing down. Face those parts of ourself that have shut down the conversation for years about how we can rescue ourselves from domineering fears, insecurities and anxieties. Take some time to reflect on what’s holding us back and work on releasing those fears. Take responsibility for where we fell short, accept the outcome of situations where we truly had no say, and rehabilitate those behaviours that are self-sabotaging.

For clues as to how Saturn's journey through Pisces may unfold, we can observe events from late May until late June 1993, and from late January 1994 until early April 1996. Look for examples of how dreams were realised and ideals were achieved during those periods. We are also likely to find evidence of shattered dreams and fallen idols when we had to face reality and not live in a fantasy world.

Saturn and Neptune both go into Aries at the beginning of 2026 and crank up fire and assertion around the globe. If we’ve done our homework, we’ll be in good shape to leap forward into the future. If we haven’t, this could herald a fiery time.

URANUS IN TAURUS (27 Jan ~ April 2026)

Themes like radicalism, impulsivity, sudden or surprising events, whether literal or symbolic, and elevated nervous energy are emphasised. We feel restless and keenly aware of where changes are needed. There is a rebellious quality which means people can tend to act out, especially if they have been feeling restricted or controlled.  We may want to increase meditation and other activities with the purpose of elevating consciousness as we have greater access to higher information from realms that are above and beyond the workings of the rational mind.

PLUTO IN AQUARIUS (20 Jan 2024 ~ 2044)

A collective shift in consciousness, with a focus on innovative thinking, community-building, and the pursuit of unconventional ideas. The beginning of a new generation, and a collective transformation of our relationship to technology. Major social reforms, new theories and revolutionary ideas, life-altering advancements in technology, space travel, communications, and consciousness. Celebrate diversity, champion progress, embrace the power of collaboration in shaping a future that values both individual expression and the greater good.

Dates to watch for more insights into the themes and effects of Pluto-in-Aquarius over the next 20 years are 5 February (Mercury conjunct Pluto), 13 February (Mars conjunct Pluto), and 17 February (Venus conjunct Pluto).

When Pluto dipped its toe into Aquarius in March ~ April 2023, there were significant revelations regarding the existence of intelligent life elsewhere in the Universe, signalling an undergoing shift in mass consciousness. The last time the Planet of Transmutation was in independent, rebellious Aquarius was from 1777 to 1797 – American and French Revolutionary Wars resulting in major changes in power structures; revolutionary ideas and themes of individual and societal rights were found in published works including The Rights of Man by Thomas Paine and A Vindication of the Rights of Women by Mary Wollstonecraft; astronomers discovered Uranus.
